Sick.

I find myself quite sick at the moment. I seem to have acquired a parasite — giardiasis or amebiasis or some other form of -iasis — somewhere in Bicol on my recent travels there.

In the process, I’ve also discovered that I’m not one of those ‘good’ sick people. You know, the types that are stoic, don’t complain and who you wouldn’t even know were sick had they not told you so.

Nope, I’m of the ‘annoying’ breed. Over the top and dramatic. I’m that girl that everyone has to know just how god damn sick I’m feeling every minute of the day and make sure that everyone else is sharing in my pain. Do you feel me, do you?!

Sorry. Just cranky. Lack of food you know. I’m actually not that bad, but when it comes to ailments that mess with my eating, as this delightful little bug of an s-o-b is doing, then you’re going to have to deal with me buddy… and I have been known to be feisty.

So as I stick to my diet of fruit (which, really, ain’t so bad here in the Philippines with all the pineapples and mangoes and watermelons on offer, oh my) and bread (if you could call the overly sweet, preservative-packed varieties here bread. Whoops, sorry; there I go again!), I dream of what I’ll be eating on the other side of this choice-less cloud and all the goodies that cause my parasite to flair up in vengeful delight.

Hummingbird Cake: From the great folk over at Saveur Magazine, a spice cake with pecans, good ol’ American style.

6-course lunch, Marque style: One of Sydney’s top chefs, Mark Best, and a friend of mind has created an unbeatable sensory experience and at price tag to scoff at.

Bife de Chorizo: Any steak would do right now, but Buenos Aires is home to some of the best slabs of meat I have every tried. Period. I haven’t eaten at this restauarnt, but Matt’s experience from MattBites.com sounds close to mine. Phenomenal.

Shredded Beef Salad with Chipotle Dressing: Another Saveur recipe which brings back fond memories of my time in Los Angeles.

And any one of these! A collection of Epicurious.com’s Top 30 rated cakes

* As you’ll observe, there’s a recurring theme of meat and cake. Makes me wonder what my pregnant cravings will be like — bloody and sweet by the looks of it!

** The above photo was taken in Baguio, Philippines at one of the city’s many street vendor stalls.

Oh dear, you poor thing! I hope it goes away quickly. Being unable to eat and looking at the top 30 cakes sounds like torture!
