If you google pancake recipes for Shrove Tuesday, you’re going to be inundated with millions of recipes claiming to be the ‘best’ one.

Essentially, all pancake recipes are the exact same with a few little tweaks.

You only need plain flour, eggs, milk and sunflower or vegetable oil to make pancakes.

Anything else that you add is up to you, but that’s the basics of a great pancake mix.

If you’re used to making Yorkshire puddings for Sunday dinner but anxious about whipping up pancakes, you’ll be shocked when you realise the recipes are exactly the same.

That’s right, Yorkshire pudding mix and pancake mix are the exact same thing.

Yorkshire pudding batter ALSO requires plain flour, eggs, milk and sunflower or vegetable oil.

The only difference is the way you cook it. Yorkshire pudding batter is just pancake mix cooked in the oven.

The consistency of Yorkshire pudding batter should be like a single cream and you should always leave the batter to sit for at least an hour before cooking. This will help them rise better.

Yorkshire pudding mix should be lump-free, while pancake batter should be slightly lumpy.

You want your pancake mix to pour easily but not be runny – it should be just thick enough that it drips rather than runs off the spoon.

Make sure you rest your pancake mix for at least five minutes before cooking too. You also want your batter to rise to make fluffy pancakes.

If you’ve got some Yorkshire pudding mix leftover from your roast dinner, you can absolutely use it for pancakes.

Equally, you can save your pancake mix and use it to prepare Yorkshire puddings tomorrow.

This is a great idea if you’re giving up sweet treats for Lent but don’t want to throw away any remaining mix today.

You can also use leftover pancake batter for muffins, waffles, bread pudding, and doughy biscuits or potato pancakes and tortillas.

The big difference in the preparation of pancakes vs Yorkshire puddings is the toppings.

What makes the two delicacies taste different is the spreads and sauces you top them with.

Yorkshire pudding becomes more savoury because it is often filled with gravy.

Pancakes, on the other hand, are traditionally adorned with sweet toppings such as chocolate spread, lemon and sugar, maple syrup, fruit, and whipped cream.

Pancakes are more diverse though, because you can use savoury toppings such as bacon, cheese, chicken, vegetables, eggs and more on them.
