We Tried Whole Foods’ Brand-New Groceries for April — These Are the 5 Best
Hitting up Whole Foods is a lot like catching up with a good friend who always has exciting life updates to share every time that you see them — the conversation is never dull and there’s always something new to squeal over together. My recent visit to Whole Foods was a lot like that. After the Whole Foods Market blog announced the store’s monthly offerings, I knew I had to get myself straight to the source. Hello, Whole Foods, my old friend. Tell me, what’s new?
These were the five best new things I found.
1. Dream Oat Beverage, $2.99 per quart
I’m nervous to tell you how tasty this oat “beverage” is in fear of causing a national shortage again. But just between us, this one is really good. I got the chocolate kind and drank it out of a glass, making my grown-up Nesquik DREAMS (get it?) come true. It would also make for a super-decadent smoothie ingredient. This oat beverage also comes in vanilla and original flavors, but I didn’t see them at my store.
2. Love, Corn Crunchy Corn Snacks, $3.69 for 4 ounces
If you like corn nuts, you’ll love these. Even if you don’t like corn nuts (or you don’t realize you like corn nuts!), these are crunchy with just the right amount of seasoning, and come in two flavors: smoked bbq and sea salt. I ate these by the handful, but you can also put them on top of salads for an added crunch.
3. Whole Foods Market Kettle Cooked Nuts, $5.99 for 8 ounces
I love kettle-cooked chips, kettle-cooked popcorn, and now can proudly declare that I love kettle-cooked CASHEWS as well. These sweet coated nuts cooked in small batches might as well be candy. (They come in flavors like cacao nib cashews, and blueberry, cranberry & quinoa.) But because they’re protein-packed nuts, you’ll feel a lot better about eating a whole bag.
4. Mt. Olive Organic Pickles, $3.99 for a 16-ounce jar
The year is 2019 and everything, including fluorescent-green dill pickle spears, is organic. Classic Mt. Olive pickles have earned a coveted spot on Whole Foods shelves because they’re USDA Certified Organic and made with simple no-nonsense ingredients. I ate two spears RIGHT after breakfast and have no regrets.
5. Zevia Organic Tea, $1.50 for a 12-ounce can
Alternative sweeteners aren’t for everyone, but these stevia-sweetened teas are void of the strong aftertaste that so many people dislike and are definitely a better alternative to cans of “tea” that are 100 percent corn syrup. This new line of fair-trade teas comes in black tea, black tea raspberry, green tea, and earl grey blood orange. For a stevia skeptic, the black tea was definitely the mildest, most approachable option.
Have you tried any of these? What’d you think?
