Richard Osman revealed he’s taking part in a popular new diet in a post on Twitter this morning. The Pointless star wrote: “I’m doing that 16/8 diet, and it means I can’t have breakfast til 10.45 this morning. I’m fuming. What’s everyone else having for breakfast?” But what does this mean? What is 16/8 diet?
The 16/8 diet involves fasting for 16 hours per day and eating within an eight-hour window.
This is usually done by only eating from midday to 8pm.
There are no restrictions on the types or amounts of food a person can eat during the 8-hour window – so no calorie counting needed.
Does fasting work?
Researchers have been studying intermittent fasting for decades and so far, study findings are often contradictory and inconclusive.
A 2016 report found that men who followed a 16:8 approach for 8 weeks while resistance training showed a decrease in fat mass.
However, a 2017 study found very little difference in weight loss between participants who practiced intermittent fasting
