Jane McDonald stays slim by only eating ‘one type of bread’

While taking part in the show Sugar Free Farm back in 2015, Jane McDonald met nutritionist Angelique Panagos, who designed an amazing diet for the presenter. Thanks to the personalised meal plan, Jane lost an incredible four stone in a matter of months but she had to ditch bread completely, except for “one type”. The TV star explained that the nutritionist gave her a recipe for a special bread she always makes at home, and it is now the “only bread I eat,” Jane claimed.

“It’s got no yeast in it and it’s made with lots of pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, wholemeal flour, oats and yoghurt of all things,” Jane explained.

The bread can be made in “literally 20 minutes” and while dieters are often advised to avoid bread while being on a calorie deficit, this is one of the healthiest types because, first of all, it is made without yeast.

Why is bread without yeast healthier?

According to experts at Foodly, “eating most types of bread creates more sugar in your body as the bread is broken down into carbohydrates and simple sugars”.

However, when “there is no yeast, you avoid the sugar issues” making it the best option for weight loss.

Why is wholemeal bread healthier?

Holland and Barrett explained that bread made with wholemeal flour has higher fibre content, which “increases the feelings of satiety”.

This, according to the experts, “can help you achieve any weight loss goals by helping you feel fuller for longer”.

Interestingly, wholemeal bread also lowers the risk of diabetes, and in “one study, people who more frequently consumed whole grains, including wholemeal bread, had lower rates of type 2 diabetes than those who didn’t”.

Why is seeded bread healthier?

Bread containing different kinds of seed also has higher fibre content which has been shown to help with satiety and appetite control.

Dietitian and nutritionist at EatingWell Lisa Valente explained that seeds “are some of the most nutritious foods you can eat”.

They pack a lot of nutrients, “including fibre, protein, healthy fats, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, into a tiny package”.

“They’ve also been shown to help lower cholesterol, and play a role in combating diabetes and cancer, and also add a nice crunch if you like that in your bread,” she added.

Talking about her diet, Jane McDonald added that to stay slim she doesn’t “eat a lot of it but when I’m really craving a bit of starch I just get some out of the freezer and stick it in the toaster and it’s done”.

In order to completely cut sugar from her diet, the presenter also cut out sweet snacks and alcohol, which was the “hardest thing”.

She also doesn’t eat “any white carbs, like white flour or white pasta, now” and has a green smoothie every morning.

Jane shared her favourite recipe: “I blend up a mixture of raw greens, flax seeds, chia seeds, spinach, kale, mint and a banana. It really is lovely. If I go for about four days without it, I really feel a difference. I think it’s the raw greens that give you loads of energy.”
