When Kev De-Lara had a shock visit with the GP about his weight, he knew it was time to make a change. Since then, Kev, who previously weighed 20 stone (127kg), has lost an incredible seven stone (44kg).
But how did he do it?
After realising he had to lose some weight for the sake of his health, he decided to sign up for MyFitnessPal.
The app calculates the number of calories users have consumed from food and burned from exercise.
It lets them know how many calories they have left to eat for the day and if they stick within their calorie limits, they should achieve the weight loss (or gain) they’re looking for.
And despite his huge weight loss success, he still uses it to track his food intake.
Counting calories can help people lose weight by bringing awareness to what they eat each day.
This can help them identify eating patterns that they may need to modify in order to see results, keeping them on track to reach their goals.

And this means Kev doesn’t need to resist any of the so-called ‘bad foods’ that he still enjoys.
By continually monitoring his calorie intake, he factors in 10-15 percent of his diet that comes from less nutritious foods, such as cake and chocolate.
He explained: “I love cake and chocolate, so I have these in moderation.
“By tracking them in the app, I ensure I don’t exceed my calorie goal.”
He added: “This means I can still eat sweet treats without feeling guilty and still lose weight!”
Kev now describes his weight now as “stable” and is successfully managing to maintain a “healthy weight”.
He explained: “I am able to keep the weight off with a mixture of exercise and being mindful of my food intake, as well as not restricting myself from my favourite foods.”
He also focuses on looking after his mental health in various ways, revealing: “This is important, as when my mind is in a good place, then so is my healthy eating adherence.”
Now a multi-site gym manager and personal trainer weighing 13 stone, Kev explained his weight loss has dramatically changed his life for the better.
He said: “I’m happier, more confident, have more energy and love myself now.
“Being a gym manager is also something that I never thought would be possible!”
