Dr Michael Mosley often shares his weight loss tips with slimmers online as well as on television. He is the creator of The Fast 800 – a diet plan that helps people lose weight quickly.
There are many diets and information about diets on the internet that it can sometimes be overwhelming and confusing.
Dr Mosley has shared one diet that enables slimmers to reach their ideal weight – and remain there.
This is the Mediterranean diet.
The nutrition expert said: “In terms of the types of foods you should be looking to incorporate into your diet is a good balance of protein, fibre and healthy fats – which is essentially the Mediterranean diet.
“The good news is, whether you incorporate intermittent fasting or not, a low carb Mediterranean diet has unique power not just to restore your body’s ability to reach its ideal weight and stay there, but also to cut your risk of serious disease.”
However, Dr Mosley stressed that the Mediterranean diet is not about counting calories or cutting specific ingredients from your diet.
He said: “It doesn’t come from a place of restriction but rather it’s about eating more of the right foods.
“Not only will these foods keep you feeling full, but they also offer important nutrients and health benefits, and taste delicious.”
These foods include plenty of vegetables, fruits, legumes, nuts, seeds, lentils, fatty fish, and full-fat yoghurt.
Dr Mosley even shared his own personal meal plan which he follows to maintain his ideal weight, but also to stay healthy.
He explained: “Eight years ago, I was diagnosed as a type two diabetic.
“I was not particularly overweight, weighing about 189lbs (86kg) and I didn’t look particularly fat, but that was because a lot of the fat I was carrying was internal.
“I went for a special MRI scan and I found out that I had lots of fat clogging up my internal organs. “Rather than start on medication I decided to try a combination of intermittent fasting and a Mediterranean diet and successfully managed to reverse my diabetes.”
As a result, Dr Mosley sticks to a diet of mushroom omelette with kimchi-style sauerkraut for breakfast, a turmeric chicken salad or a chickpea tagine for lunch, and a dinner of salmon and broccoli or a kimchi rice tofu bowl.
He added: “I try to avoid snacks generally but if I do occasionally indulge, it might be on something reasonably healthy like a handful of nuts.
“My wife Clare makes these wonderful sugar free chocolate brownies that contain beetroot and dates.
“They are pretty hard to resist but thankfully, they’re guilt-free.”
Dr Mosley also drinks plenty of water throughout the day and avoids sugary drinks.
“I might add a slice of lemon or cucumber to my water to liven it up,” he said.
