Tom Kerridge reveals how he changed his lifestyle on GMB

Tom Kerridge, 47, looks better than ever as he makes various appearances on the television screens over the Christmas period. He has been very open about his weight loss journey over the past few years, what method did he use?

Tom explains that ditching the alcohol and following a healthier lifestyle has helped him transform his body.

However he doesn’t completely restrict his diet and will opt for the occasional flapjack to satisfy his sugar cravings. 

The chef also shared that he lives a mainly carb-free diet.

Cutting back on carbs can help reduce body fat and Healthline recommends cutting carbohydrates back further if you don’t start to see changes.

He has also credited his diet to the dopamine diet.

Known as the “happy” diet plan, the foods eaten while following it are said to boost the so-called “happy hormone”.

The diet isn’t restricted like other plans, meaning it could be easier to follow.

Foods allowed on the plan include unprocessed meat, dairy and dark chocolate and the diet doesn’t overly restrict what you can eat.

Eggs, nuts and omega-3 rich rich are also permitted.

Eating a non-restricted diet encourages slimmers to stick to the diet long-term as it becomes a way of life rather than an intense diet plan.

According to Healthline, eating eggs for breakfast can cause up to 65 percent greater weight loss over eight weeks.

They have also shown to increase the feelings of fullness, reducing the need for snacking.

Most versions of the dopamine diet involve ditching the booze as well as caffeine and processed sugar.

Most alcoholic beverages are high in calories while being empty in any nutritional value, and they could cause weight gain over time.

The average glass of wine contains about 125 calories while a can of beer can be around 150.

What is more, alcohol can also increase feeling of hunger.

Research in mice found alcohol increased activity in a set of brain cells used to regulate appetite. 

At his heaviest, the chef topped the scales at 30 stone.

Tom told GQ: “As a chef, I was grazing and snacking throughout service. Or I’d be eating cheese on toast and packets of crisps because they were quick and there and ready to go.”

He explains that cutting out quick and easy meals was key to losing weight and now enjoys spending time prepping his meals.

Tom also makes sure he eats breakfast every single day to get his metabolism started.

The body needs these essential nutrients and research shows that if these are missed at breakfast, they are less likely to be compensated for later in the day and it can be harder to lose weight if you don’t eat breakfast.

He said: “I was a big one to skip breakfast. I didn’t have any.”

Eating a big meal at breakfast will keep you fuller for longer which will mean you will be less inclined to snack throughout the day, reducing your overall daily intake.
