With busy schedules, it’s easy to forget to drink the recommended six to eight glasses of fluid a day. The good thing is, lower fat milk, sugar-free drinks, tea, and coffee all count, according to the NHS. However, there is nothing to beat water as the ultimate hydrator, which can also help with weight loss.

Signe Svanfeldt, an expert nutritionist at Lifesum, the leading global nutrition app, spoke exclusively to Express.co.uk about how you can incorporate more water into your daily routine.

The nutritionist also mentioned how drinking enough water can help you become healthier, which consequently leads to weight loss.

She said: “Drinking water alone will not make you lose weight. The feeling of hunger can, however, be mistaken for the feeling of thirst, so it is good to drink a glass of water before eating an extra snack.

“And if you’re still hungry afterwards, eat a nutritious snack or meal.”

Signe explained that many people “lack awareness of their water intake during the day”, therefore tracking how much water you drink daily is a good idea.

It also ensures that you stay hydrated.

Signe said: “Water is important for various functions in our body, for the brain, skin, organs, digestion and blood.

“If you don’t get enough water you can feel tired, dizzy and weak,” she added.

Signe continued: “The amount of water we need varies, but a general recommendation is around two to three litres of water per day, including water from other sources, for example, tea and water rich vegetables.

“If you work out and sweat a lot, the need for water increases. Always make sure to drink water when you feel thirsty.”

Signe shared tips that can help encourage you to drink more water throughout the day.

“Always keep a water bottle with you as it will remind you to take a sip every now and then,” the nutritionist explained.

She added: “Drink water before every meal and make a habit to drink a glass of water first thing in the morning.”

Signe also warned against sugary drinks, saying: “Swap fizzy drinks for water.”

If the taste of water is a little boring for your liking, Signe recommended adding some flavour with sliced fruit or other ingredients.

She said: “You can easily spice up your water and make it more fun.

“Drink sparkling water if you enjoy fizzy water, or add some sliced fruit, vegetables or herbs into your water bottle.”

Signe mentioned “perfect” fruit combinations, such as cucumber, mint and lime, lemon and ginger, grapefruit, orange and rosemary, and strawberries, lime and basil.

According to Healthline, drinking water about half an hour before meals can reduce the number of calories you end up consuming.

The website also states that drinking enough water can increase your metabolism and curb your appetite.
