Ayam Cabai Garam / Chicken Popcorn In Garlic and Chilli Spice

We had this for iftar (the meal you have after fasting all day) yesterday and hubby loves it, it can be enjoyed with rice or even by itself, up to you!

  1. 3 chicken breast, cut into cubes
  2. 12 tbsp fried chicken premix flour
  3. 6 tbsp water (iced water)
  4. Oil for frying
  5. The spice:
  6. 3 birdeye chillies, slice thinly
  7. 12 cloves garlics. Smashed then chopped finely
  8. 3 green onions. Slice thinly
  9. Oil for stir frying
  10. Salt
  11. Pepper
  12. Chiken powder


  1. Marinate the chicken cubes with some salt and pepper. Set aside.

  2. In a container, add the chickens with 4 tbsp of the flour. Then add some flour. Mix until they are combined.

  3. Then add in the dry flour. Close the lids. Shake until all the chicken is covered in dry flour.

  4. Thsn heat the oil in a pan. Fry the chickens until golden brown ans crispy. Set aside.

  5. Add 2 tbsp of oil in a pan. Fry the chopped garlics until fragrant and golden in colour.

  6. Then add the chillies and green onions. Stir to combine.

  7. Add the chickens in. Mix again.

  8. Add the seasonings. Mix. Taste test.

  9. Serve and enjoy.
