Steak n gravy

Growing up, it was my favorite dish my Moma made…it was among the many meals she would put on for us.


  1. 8 large cube steaks
  2. 2 large Vidalia onions, chopped
  3. 1 lb. Mushrooms, your choice, cleaned and chopped
  4. 4 jars or packets of brown gravy…homesytle


  1. In a large skillet, on medium,… I use a deep electric; place onions and mushrooms…salt n pepper…

  2. Sautee unil the aroma fills the air…

  3. Add meat, salt n pepper, cover w cold water, cover

  4. Slow cook until meat is tender and falls apart, I cook mine all day…adding water as needed…DO NOT LET THE MEAT GO DRY.

  5. When your meat is tender, let the water cook down until just covering the meat…adding your gravy and mix well.

  6. How to serve: When I make steak n gravy, I serve creamy mashed taters, peasalad, and mac n cheese. With Easy Peasy Jonny cake.

  7. How to plate… always wipe plates w dry clean cloth…then delicately spoon a pile of taters in the middle, adding steak covering half the taters, cover both lightly w gravy, adding the mac n cheese to the side. Serve salad in salad bowl and bread on bread plate. This meal is delicious with a tall glass of Southern iced tea. Enjoy!!
