Vegetable Uthappam

My Favorite of all is the south indian breakfast any day .. That hot idli vada or dosa or even this uthappam dipped and soaked in chutney and sambar and taking that bite is a bliss ? .This is onion carrot uthappam served with coconut chutney and idli Podi .I made this using same batter for idli dosa .


  1. 2 Cup / Glass Idli Rice
  2. 3/4 Cup Urad dal
  3. 1 Cup Cooked rice or puffed rice soaked
  4. 1/2 tsp Methi
  5. Water as required
  6. 1 Onion chopped
  7. 1 Carrot Grated
  8. leaves Coriander
  9. Salt
  10. Coconut Chutney
  11. 1/2 Cup Grated Coconut
  12. 1 small inch ginger
  13. 1 small clove garlic
  14. to taste Salt
  15. 4/5 Green Chillies
  16. leaves coriander
  17. 2/3 Tbsp Channa Dal
  18. Oil
  19. leaves Curry
  20. 2 Dry Red Chilli
  21. 1 tsp Mustard seed


  1. Soak the rice and urad dal for 8 hours and Menthia.

  2. Grind them into smooth batter along with cooked rice or puffed rice.Add water little

  3. Transfer into a vessel and ferment over night. Next day add salt and make soft idli or dosa.

  4. Coconut Chutney : In a mixer add coconut,ginger,garlic,green chilies and salt add little water and grind to smooth paste.Then add the channa dal and grind again.

  5. For the tempering :Heat oil in a pan,once hot add mustard seed,dry red chilli and curry leaves and add it to chutney.
